Giving Compass Social Justice Nonprofits – Landscape at a Glance
Landscape snapshot of nonprofits working on key issues in the US using a social justice approach.
Over one million nonprofits in the US are addressing our social challenges. They report an annual income of $2.9 Trillion, creating immense opportunity to harness the power of technology, innovation, and cross-sector collaboration to address these challenges. However, there is a lack of access to insights to understand the social sector holistically and across impact areas.
As part of its mission to inform donors and support impact-driven philanthropy (IDP), Giving Compass developed criteria to identify grassroots organizations, BIPOC- and LGBTQIA-led nonprofits, and social justice efforts that often receive the least amount of funding but are closest to the solutions.
This exclusive research provides a glimpse into the landscape of these social justice organizations. This data can help social impact leaders identify organizations that are deeply immersed in social justice work and find gaps in funding and service areas.
- Nearly 1,000 organizations have been added to the Directory to date, reporting over $10B in annual revenue.
- They work across a wide range of impact areas and 16 of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals.
- Charitable grants & fundraising account for over half of the income reported by these organizations.
