A decrease in the price of gasoline due to COVID-19 simultaneously reduced ethanol demand. Approximately 40% of U.S. grown corn is made into ethanol and then blended with gasoline to reduce emissions. Decreased ethanol demand has forced some plants to close, endangering the transition to clean energy in the future.
