Agricultural Pollution as a Source of Fresh Water Contamination
Nonpoint source pollution is the leading cause of water pollution in the U.S. and includes agricultural and stormwater runoff, as well as debris blown into waterways from land. Agricultural pollution is generally credited as being the top source of contamination in rivers and streams. Nutrient pollution from agricultural runoff can cause algal blooms that are harmful to people and wildlife.
