Saving So Called Ugly Food From Waste

Food waste is one of the biggest environmental crises we face in our time. Millions of acres of land are being destroyed; Millions of acre-feet of water are used for irrigation; Millions of pounds of pesticides are being used a year - all in the name of food production. With 30 to 50 percent of this hard-earned food being thrown out every single year, it is up to us, as citizens, to demand better.

Nature and Context

This massive food waste is fueled by the need for cosmetically 'perfect' produce. This standard is incredibly unrealistic and unnecessary. By setting up an 'ugly food' section in local supermarkets, people have the option to buy this produce, rather than it being thrown away. This will benefit the shoppers as well as the environment and is a small step in the fight to eliminate food waste
