Encouraging talk about mental health to combat suicide

Suicide is sadly still a taboo subject for many, and carries a great deal of stigma. This must change since suicide is the tenth leading cause of death in the US. Our culture as a whole needs to address mental health daily so we can overcome such heartbreaking statistics.

Nature and Context

By increasing the accessibility of suicide prevention resources we will enable more people to find the help they need in a timely and convenient way. America can empower people to help others at risk through the sharing of resources, micro-teaching and generally improving confidence to help someone at risk of suicide. Accessing these resources with anonymity is important because of the social taboo associated with suicide, but the end goal is to have such an open dialogue about mental health that anyone can feel comfortable asking for help.
