Promoting a worldwide understanding of homosexuality
Over nine million Americans publicly identify as part of the LGBTQ community. Traditionally, this population has been underrepresented in all systems and institutions. Legislation in many countries still actively persecutes or limits the queer community. They face harassment everyday that many people couldn't even fathom. Educating the world and eliminating the taboo of sexuality and genders can help eliminate some of the problems they face daily from the general public, institutions, and more.
Because LGBTQI+ is still viewed systemically as 'other,' the community largely suffers when it comes to adequate healthcare. Finding providers who are competent and attune to the unique physical and mental needs is a challenge individuals regularly face.
Sex Education Gap
While sex education varies from state to state, a common thread remains - programs and schools regularly fail to include LGBTQI+ sex education in their curriculum. This means many children who don't identify as straight or CISgender have no access to general education about their sexuality and how it can impact their health. This lack of education leads to isolation and risky choices when it comes to their sexual and overall health.
All Out seeks to build global activist and support networks to combat homophobic legislation and public activities. The website provides video resources and social networking advice to help gay rights activists develop their tactics and support networks, as well as a platform to share their local stories and cause.
Additionally, X4Impact has solutions featured that are helping to combat inequity in healthcare and other institutions:
Included Health is the first comprehensive health platform partnering with employers to connect LGBTQ+ members to culturally competent, quality providers who understand the unique needs of the community.
MyUmbrella is a social networking platform with the mission to connect and empower the LGBTQ+ community. It was started to provide a space to celebrate and promote the various stories and journeys that exist in our community - a safe space to bond through lessons learned and resources to show that we’re not alone as we often feel. Hear queer voices and have your voice hear. We're in this together.
