Building Data Tools to Fight Human Trafficking
The State Department notes in its most recent report on the subject that human trafficking is unfortunately flourishing due to current global financial issues. With global demand for labor decreasing, impoverished workers find themselves taking greater risks than before in order to survive. The result: a recipe for greater forced labor of migrant workers and the commercial sexual exploitation of women in prostitution.
Data is not currently shared between locations, which is an immense challenge based on the systemic nature of the global issue. Anti-trafficking efforts at border crossings and airports need to be able to combine data across locations and surface insights that give interviewers greater intelligence about the right questions to ask and how to direct them.
