Tackling food waste: An economic, ethical, and environmental issue

Roughly one-third of the edible parts of food produced for human consumption is wasted globally, which is 1.3 billion ton per year. Currently around 100 million tonnes of food is wasted every year. If nothing is done, food waste could rise to over 120 million tonnes by 2020. Wasting food is not only an ethical and economic issue, but also depletes the environment of limited natural resources.
