When rethinking communities we should be thinking about designing out waste, using renewable resources, and using systems thinking, all in ways that help organizations and economies move away from a linear model of inputting scarce resources and throwing away toxic or unusable by-products.

Nature and Context

In August 2013, Scotland became the first nation to join a unique, global group of organizations called the CE100. CE stands for the Circular Economy – a concept that lives through the leadership of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation; an environmental think tank and charity that describes a new operational model for organizations and economies, premised on principles of sustainability.
