Ending the experience of exclusion for the hearing impaired

Ending social, educational and vocational exclusion faced by those with hearing loss should be more of a focus across the board. There are a number of inclusive technology solutions designed to connect those affected to a wider audience, it is up to society to start implementing these developments to include those who are currently marginalized.

Nature and Context

Due to a lack of caption based systems and interpretive services for broadcasting and live events, often times the hearing impaired are left out of important conversations in their community. Most recently we have seen a lack of interpretive services present at COVID-19 conferences, meaning an entire group of people is lacking information and being left unprotected. Technology and social services exist so that this shouldn't be a problem. It is up to society to continue developing these methods, and furthermore implementing what already exists to ensure no one is left at risk in these unprecedented times.
